Cumbernauld Colts 2-3 Kilmarnock

The ladies got back to winning ways after beating Colts at Broadwood Stadium last night. Off to a flyer getting a penalty in the opening minutes after Linzi Taylor was upended in the box. Chloe Ponton stepped up and shot just over the bar, but she quickly made amends in the 11th minute whipping in directly from a corner, not the first time the youngster has done that his season. 1-0 Killie.

Kilmarnock were dominant across the park and increased their lead on the half hour mark through Kirsty Mcglaughlin who blasted home to open her account for Killie 2-0.

Colts had been on the backfoot for most of the half and were looking for the halftime whistle. Killie should have increased their lead throughout the half but missed opportunities.

The second half was a totally different affair with Colts becoming the dominant side using their height and strength to good use. They got their just reward after a long ball was misjudged in defence and Melissa Porter latched onto it and lobbed Hunter in the Killie goal. 2-1.

Colts kept up the pressure and Killie were cracking. Their equaliser wasn't long in coming with a scuffle around the box and Jo Morrison seemed to scuff her shot but it looped over the keeper 2-2.

15mins left to play the tension was incredible. Killie replied almost immediately after a surging run from Linzi Taylor into the box and she was sent crashing to the ground, penalty Killie 77mins. This time Mcglaughlin stepped up cool as you like, despatching the ball past the Colts keeper. 3-2 Killie.

A frantic final thirteen minutes ensued and Colts were desperate to get a draw but Killie held onto their lead. A thoroughly entertaining match full of energy and some excellent football played by both sides in this encounter. Roll on the return fixture in early September.
